Splatterpunk's Finest: Greg Goodsell's Interview

A Conversation with Greg Goodsell:

Splat Pack Pioneer and Space Monsters Magazine Columnist

Space Monsters Magazine is a haven for the weird and wonderful, a place where film veterans, legendary novelists, documentary filmmakers, and gorehounds come together to celebrate the beauty of the macabre. And at the heart of it all is Greg Goodsell, a writer who has made a name for himself in the genre with his razor-sharp wit and unapologetic love for all things splattery.

But what's the real secret to our success? Well, it's no secret that we're the ones who started the splatterpunk movement, championing notorious exploitation cinema like I Spit On Your Grave, Make Them Die Slowly, and Cannibal Holocaust. Yep, we're the ones who delight in extreme horror and gore.

So, what's the topic of discussion today? None other than the infamous Chris Gore and his ummm.. Film Threat trash piece. But before we get to that, let's take a step back and appreciate the context. You see, Chris Gore was a bit of a thorn in the side of the horror community, selling unauthorized dupes and generally being a bit of a pain in the neck. And who better to take him down a peg than the one and only Chas Balun, the legendary horror critic and founder of Deep Red Magazine?

According to Greg Goodsell, the encounter between Gore and Balun was nothing short of epic. "One of the high points of my career was introducing Gore to Balun at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors," Goodsell recalls. "Balun picked up the squirming five-foot nothing Gore and threatened to kill him then and there! Beer flew everywhere! Best bar fight I've seen outside of a bar!"

But amidst all the chaos and hilarity, Goodsell takes a moment to address the real issue at hand. "Why did he feel so high and mighty?" he asks, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "Gore was selling unauthorized dupes along with everyone else. What made him think he was above the fray?"

And there you have it, folks - a glimpse into the world of Space Monsters Magazine, where the creatures of the night roam free and the writing is as bloody as the genre itself. So grab a bag of popcorn, settle in, and get ready to indulge in some good old-fashioned horror hijinks.
