Who is Grimaldi

 Who is Grimaldi?

He is the host or mascot of all things Space Monsters. He is rumored as being Frank Poole, the astronaut who was cut loose by Hal 9000 in 2001 A Space Odyssey.

The idea being that he drifted in space and was reanimated by an evil force which explains his glowing eyes.

But then he could be a flight officer from a derelict spaceship in a ship graveyard. In fact the spaceship graveyard was later discovered to be the same one that the Alphans from Moonbase Alpha came across in the Space 1999 episode Dragon's Domain.

His lifeless body was reanimated by a glowing loc-nar type evil force and then he came to us. He likes to pick on earthlings, which he refers too as Earthies....

You will know that the information is coming directly from him by noticing the computer calling out

Incoming Transmission.....Commlink Established....

At the beginning of every transmission directly from him.

His name "Grimaldi" comes from the first part of the Heavy Metal Illustrated Magazine movie. The one where the guy brings the loc-nar to his daughter and it disintegrates him.

Another theory is that he is that very astronaut but was rematerialized in a loc-nar host type form.

So those are some theories about his identity. The truth is that we don't really know. We know he is from out there somewhere and isn't human...not anymore anyway if he once was.

He is a bit of a mystery. It could be any one of these or a host of others...but we may never know.
